New Things

New things are wonderful and hard all at the same time.

Susan and I have experienced God’s clear and compelling call to move to Orlando and begin a new phase of life and ministry there. I will become the executive director of International Ministries for Converge Worldwide. I’m sobered and humbled that God has chosen me for this role.

In this new ministry role, I will:

  • Be responsible for a clear vision and effective strategic plans to step into God-ordained opportunities around the world to reach people for Christ.
  • Lead a great team of servant-leaders in our Orlando Converge Worldwide home office to recruit, assess, send, and care for missionaries around the world.
  • Connect with Converge churches across the United States (about 1000 of them) to raise the value of missions and serve them in their efforts to bring the gospel to those who need it.

While all of this is very exciting for me, it is also very difficult to leave a church I love. Edinbrook has been such a tremendous blessing to our family. 16 years of building relationships, pouring into people, creating a Christ-honoring culture, and dreaming big dreams is difficult to leave behind. But Jesus has called and we’re going to follow Him into this great and grand adventure!

By the way, I was overwhelmed at the love and support shown to us yesterday. When I stepped up front to preach, the congregation rose to its feet and gave me a standing ovation. I’m guessing this was not out of glee that I’m bailing. Actually, it was a very moving moment that reminded me once again of what an incredible church I’ve been privileged to lead.

RE: the standing ovation. You have loved us so well and so much for so long, that the only response is to love you back. Hmmmm,,,,sounds familiar. I think that’s following Christ’s example. He loves us so much and when we get that, we can’t help but love Him back.Let’s tell the world~!

Pastor Ivan, Wendi Abell just sent me the link to your sermon from Nov.6th. I just wanted to let you know that I also will be praying for you and your family. I can tell that you are following where the Lord is leading you. It is a very difficult thing to leave your “comfort” zone, but you do have the assurance that because of your obedience the Lord will guide you, protect you and provide for you. I thank the Lord for people like you who set such a good example in being a follower of Christ! I have been a visitor in your (Gods) Church several times and it looks like a very healthy Church. I am confidant that Edinbrook will continue in the direction that you have through the Lord have set before them. Gods Blessings to you and your family!
