Voice
So last night, Susan was busy on a work project all evening. She was holed up in our bedroom (not sure why there) working on a laptop from 6PM until…well–long after I fell asleep beside her at 11PM. She’s like a hound after a coon when she gets in her hyper type-A mode. Which is why she’s so good at so many things. She goes for it.
I missed her voice last night. Yes. The house was quiet, the kids were gone, I was alone most of the evening and enjoyed that too. Therapy. But–I realized I missed hearing her voice. I love it when she talks. It’s nourishing to my soul, soothing to my spirit, and joy to my heart. At least when I didn’t do something wrong…
I love her voice because I love her.
The radically righteous Job said, “I have esteemed the words of God’s mouth more than my necessary food.”
David said, “Oh how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day long.”
Paul wrote to the Colossians, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly!”
So the question for us today is simply this: Do you love hearing God speak? Are you eager to open the Word, not just to read it, do your duty, or become more spiritual, but to hear God’s voice directed at you?
God never stops speaking. Are you listening?
