Kingdom Building over Church Building

Susan and I had an amazing Sunday! We went on a learning adventure and attended another very successful church in the Twin Cities area. From a different denomination, with a different target group, with a fresh motif, carried out with a excellence. We worshiped. We learned. We were inspired.

Now–here’s the fun news! We had a God-appointment. I love those. About six months ago, God laid it on my heart to connect with this church to investigate some possible ministry partnerships. After calling the church, emailing, Facebooking…and attempting to reach them in any way I could think of, I was unsuccessful. After we finished worship, we were hanging out in the lobby for a few minutes when another man about my age (not many of us in this particular group) approached me and started a conversation. Upon finding out that I was also a pastor, he called the preaching pastor of the day over. I commended him on a great message (and it really was!) and then told him I had wanted to talk with someone about some possible partnership opportunities. He came alive! “Let’s meet!” he stated. “I’ll make time for you. Let’s get it set up!”

Here’s what I love about Kingdom building: We’re all on the same team! No boundaries to protect, no credit to claim, no competition to win. I don’t need to worry about whether it’s theirs or ours, my idea or their idea. We’re all in this together! We get to see what God wants and then simply follow His lead. He’s already getting things set up for whatever it is He wants done by whomever He wants it done by.

I love Kingdom building way more than church building. It’s the way Jesus wanted it when He said, “Make them one as you and I, Father, are one.”
